Unlike many fellow winemakers, we weren’t born into this business. We didn’t grow up on vineyards or inherit land from prior generations. Even our early careers as an automotive technician and special education teacher lacked a connection to the wine industry.
So, you might ask, how did M Cellars get started?
Our Winemaking Vision
Our passion for wine began during our many trips to Niagara-on-the-Lake in Ontario, Canada. The more we visited, the more we fell in love with the quaint, family-owned wineries. We became intrigued by the different varietals and winemaking styles of the region. This newfound interest led us to experiment with winemaking at home.
In 2007, we took a leap with the ultimate do-it-yourself project: Converting prime land in the Grand River Valley into our own vineyard. We believed we could plant European Vitis Vinifera grape vines and handcraft world-class wines right here in Northeast Ohio.
Cultivating Our Family Legacy
Over the next couple of years, we carefully planted, tended and harvested young vines of Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and more to bring this dream to life.
As our vineyard operation continued to grow, we hired a team of people with keen knowledge and passion for wine. Together, we embrace both new– and old–world winemaking methods to showcase the Grand River Valley’s distinctive terroir. We’ve also adopted sustainable farming practices that protect and respect our land.
The result: High quality, eco-friendly wines for people to enjoy. You can visit us or try them for yourself at home.
All that said, the most rewarding aspect of building our legacy is sharing it with our two daughters, Amelia and Madelyn. As a team and family, we do more than work together. We learn together and celebrate every special moment and milestone along the way.
